Medical Assistance (Crew/Non Crew)

Comprehensive Medical Assistance for Seafarers

At McLeans, we understand the critical importance of timely and professional medical support for seafarers. That’s why we partner with trusted medical providers, including bilingual ICU doctors with expertise in intensive care and resuscitation, to offer a range of services tailored to the unique needs of those at sea.

Our medical assistance services go beyond on-site attendance and follow-up. With our network of specialists, we are equipped to provide:

  • Remote Medical Assessments and Guidance: In addition to in-person assistance, our team can remotely assess medical situations and provide expert advice when your seafarer is hospitalized abroad. Our bilingual ICU doctors work directly with the treating physicians, ensuring clear communication and facilitating seamless care, even when medical confidentiality might pose challenges.
  • Independent Medical Evaluations: We offer an objective, professional evaluation of the seafarer’s condition, helping determine:
    • The necessity and urgency of repatriation.
    • Recommendations for treatment ashore or at a local medical facility.
  • Seamless Facility Transfers: If the initial medical facility is unable to handle the situation, we help local agents coordinate transfer to a more suitable facility, whether within the same country or abroad. Our team works closely with local agents to ensure a smooth transition and ensure the best possible care is provided.
  • Informed Decision-Making: We assist in assessing whether a vessel deviation is necessary and provide an accurate estimate of treatment costs. Should the situation require medical evacuation or a different course of treatment, we explain the reasoning behind our recommendations, ensuring transparency at every step.

Additional Medical Services:

We also provide a range of services designed to support the health and safety of your crew:

  • Medical Assessments for Vessel Deviation: Evaluating the need for a deviation based on medical conditions.
  • Safety & Protection Advice: Offering expert guidance to the Master and crew on safety measures to protect the health of the crew during voyages.
  • Pandemic-Related Medical Support: Recommending additional medical inventory on board, tailored to the geographical area and current pandemic guidelines.
  • Vaccination & Testing Support: Providing advice on crew vaccinations, testing protocols, and other medical inquiries to ensure crew safety.
  • Cost Containment: When it is suspected that medical costs are disproportionate, we actively engage to ensure the final charges are reasonable and transparent.

At McLeans, we are committed to ensuring that seafarers in need receive the best possible care, wherever they are. Our proactive approach to medical assistance ensures that the health and safety of seafarers are always our top priority.
